Modularis Evolution

Worklog

I'm going to start this off with a very honest cautionary note that x06jsp and his history on our (and other) forums has certainly been...eventful. There have been problems with sponsors that he has gone to great lengths to separate himself from as he creates his newest project, which we feature here today.

It's in the spirit of moving forward that we have included Modularis Evolution in what we here at bit-tech consider to be a pretty high honor - but one look at the start of this project says that the only reason it wouldn't be included is a bit of a haunting past.

Modularis Evolution is exactly as its name implies - a modular setup, where each drive is compartmentalized. Think of it as a bit of BaDassumption mixed with some future ne[]n and you have a bit of an idea where x06jsp is headed with this.

Modularis (the first project) started out basic enough, but then it began to evolve... and continued evolving. Eventually, decorative elements found their place amongst the function of modularity, and the design as a whole was born. We promise, we're going to take away x06jsp's Photoshop rights after this.

The project all started with some aluminum and a sheet metal brake. In fact, the break, a drill and a jigsaw are probably the only tools we've really seen him armed with!

The aluminum on Modularis Evolution is augmented by some well-cut acrylic work. These accents will continue throughout the project.

Boxes, boxes, boxes...they just keep multiplying! As x06jsp moves on throughout the project, these boxes are then augmented with some neon green perspex that is attached with machine screws.

Each compartment will feature its own foot design made from layered black and green acrylic, like the set built for the DVD drive above.

Though the planning is simple and the execution seems easy enough so far, it's a lot harder than it looks to design a working system this way. Fortunately, x06jsp is updating his thread on a nearly daily level to keep us in on all the details, so go check out his worklog and see what he adds next!

While you're on your way there, you should take a trip over to vote for Modularis Evolution as July's Mod of the Month if you think it's got the right stuff!
